Hi Just changed my Note 1.4SE manual for a 1.6 Tekna automatic although not it was not purchased from a nissan garage. (57 Reg)

My question is:- Does the Car Radio Passport card show the radio code in the CATS Code No. section.

The garage couldn't tell me as they are not sure.

	Not too sure, i thought the radio was coded to the ecu and therefore there might not be a record of a "radio code"

	Thanks crazytaxi for reply. Radio working fine at moment but should I disconnect the battery at any time I felt that I needed to know. Does that mean that should I need to disconnect the battery and then once reconnected the radio will work. Once again thanks.

	If it's anything like my P11-144 and P12 Prims then yes, no need to input a code manually. Each radio is coded to each ecu, meaning that if you took one from any other car it would not work in yours and would need to go to nissan for a recode

	Evening, From what i've been reading, these codes are the same as any other radio(4 digit number) meaning, you would have to get the radio recoded or just give your dealer a call, chat with the Service department and explain that you bought the car 2nd hand and wasent given the radio code. The dealer should have it on the system. They might require you to visit the dealership and produce proof of ownership and ID but you should get the code if they have on file. Hope this helps

	On my 144 the OE headunit had been removed and an aftermarket one fitted but removed by the previous owner, after a few weeks of listen to the soundtrack provided by the stainless exhaust i out the OE one back in (i know for a fact it had been out for 3yrs), there was no need to enter a code. It was the same when i had let the battery die a few times while i had the car "off road" The P12 was the same after battery disconnection, even after a 2 months while the front end was repaired and the battery replaced too (due to accident damage) It's all to do with the NATS system, making any headunit useless once it's removed from the car it was fitted in.

	Thats a good point...(not questioning you as i'm more on the pre-ECU controled cars) But then some Radio's have the option to disable the code so you never have to enter the code when the battery comes out or the radio comes out. The Renault philips system is like this and most of the radios today...but some get cheaky and code them to the ECU. Still worth having a chat with the dealer to be 100% sure.

	The Philips system is one of the easiest to "fry", once this has been done you are able to put your own code into them, of course back in the day the rumour was to put it in the freezer over night lol Back to the original poster, does the radio say "secure" for a split second when you first turn it on? If so i'd say it's coded to the ecu

	Thanks crazytaxi & Ratchet for the replies. Did ring friendly nissan garage & gave reg number but the reply was BRING IT IN. WHY? - because it must be on the main computer? Nearest nissan garage 25 miles away so that is out of the question. I shall go along on the assumption that the radio code is tied into the ecu as that makes perfect sense & is logical. Thanks to both of you.

	Spoke to my local Nissan, they say the code is a normal code and not coded to the ECU...you would have to find out the original dealer that sold the car NEW as they would have the code on the system. other wise it will be stored on the ECU and would require them plugging up to the Nissan diagnostic computer and pulling the radio serial number and other numbers, then them going on the Nissan system and pulling the radio code from the records that way at a cost of around £47+vat...or if you pull the radio yourself and get the numbers off it and give them the numbers they can pull the code for around £25+vat. Hope this helps.
