Hello everyone, My name is Charlotte, I am new here cos I would like some advice on stuff for my car, I'm blonde, so forgive me. hehe. Hello everyone, I hope you all slept well/are doing well etc. I need some advice for some stuff for my car.

Right, my car is a 2003, Nissan Micra 5 door DCi diesel manual.  I think it is a 1.9 litre. I have been told I need to get four new tyres by the garage cos I just took it for it's MOT a couple of weeks back. The MOT guy said the tyres were at 3 millimetres now, and were nearly illegal, so I should change them as soon as possible.

They asked me what size I wanted to put on the car, but I told them I don't know, I have no idea about cars. They said if I wanted good quality tyres, then it would cost 186 pounds for 1 pair of tyres, but he could do a deal for a full set of 4 at 350 pounds. The guy said they would be AVON tyres, which are very good and would last for at least 20 thousand miles. But if I wanted cheap tyres, he could do a set of four tyres for 200 pounds. So what size should I tell the garage to fit on my car?

Also, the guy said I needed a new cat because the diesel engine makes the cat wear out quicker. He said he could get a new one for 485 pounds or if I wanted to save money, a second hand one for 200.

Hi there....

the correct tyre size you can get from your currant tyres....should be on the side of em.... usually something like 185/50/14 ....once you have the size you can check sites like www.mytyres.co.uk to see if the garage is charging you a fair price....

never heard about the diesel engine wearing out a cat....if theres nothing wrong with it, theres no need to replace it...looking for easy money I think there.....

i agree , never heard that one before , why is he asking you for tyre sizes he should know this , sounds like a cowboy.for the tyres you should get a decent set of four for around 200-250 , not as if your racing it . ignor him about the cat , did it fail emissions , if so use a forte or a good emission reducer like cataclean , around 15 quid that will reduce your emissions by 70% and fly through mots . it will also clean your fuel filter , pump and injectors and most important the cat and lambda sensor .

i sell forte , i can do you one for 13.00 incl post

lol, at the garage's 'cat' comment.  Just an excuse to make a bit of extra money I think.

With your tyres, i'm impressed with the garage's 20k miles prediction, how does he know how you drive to be able to predict your tyre wear.  You maybe a girl racer and eat tyres.  If you what a long lasting tyre generally buy hard compound tyres, but there are pro's and con's to these.

Personally, i'd change your garage.

Ok, fanx guys. I have found out my car has size 175 65 15. I told a friend who's boyfriend does ' cheapy ' shopping, and told me off a place near him that does tyres really cheap, cheaper than anyone else in the area. The garage guy looked at all my tyres and said I only needed 1 tyre for now, and 1 more in a few hundred miles, and to pop back in a couple of weeks to get the 2nd tyre done. It was a Dunlop tyre he put on the rear for 50 pound fitted.
