Air con has stopped working on my 08 pathy, dealer says it's leaked
between flexible hose and the 4 pipes that run underneath, they also
say they have fixed this fault before under warranty for others.
Problem is mine is 2 months out of warranty and therefore Nissan will
contribute 66% towards parts, dealer has reduce labour charge but still
facing £580 bill for what I believe is a not fit for purpose design. Only
got 50k on clock, road miles, not used off road or hammered.

Are we to expect that simple components like this only last for 3yrs
and then customers face large bills!

Has anyone else had this or similar issues ?

I would suggest that you call Nissan Customer Service yourself. You tend to find that they will help customers out more directly than going through the dealership.

Yeah, I did this after the dealer said that Nissan would contribute 66%
towards parts, still left with a £500+ bill for something that I believe is a
design fault, surely the hose/pipes last more than 3yrs !

Also found this on web

4x4/readers-reviews/25459-3

My car
I now regret buying the Pathfinder and would SERIOUSLY warn
others from buying one of these due to a design fault that Nissan will
not rectify.

Basically the pipes that run to the rear heater are badly positioned and
corrode through allowing coolant to drain out. To replace the pipes it is
necessary to remove the body from the chassis which I find totally
ridiculous! Price to repair £1,750 plus!!!!!!!

My T-Spec has done less than 50,000 miles and to face a bill like that
is ludicrous.

The pipes run from the front bulkhead right to the rear of the car in
one piece so it is not possible to replace just the rotten section.

To check it on your car take off the rear offside wheel and you will see
the two aluminium pipes tucked up under the suspension mounting
bracket. The corrosion takes place where the binders keeping the two
pipes in place are fitted. A natural trap for salty water that when heated
and cooled eats through the aluminium.

Be aware if buying second hand that it is very likely to happen to this
model or any other Pathfinder with a rear heater fitted!!

In a car that costs topside of 30 grand it is a disgrace!!

Hello mjs123ms. Same problem on my 06 Pathfinder a few weeks ago. After a bit of hassel repaired under dealer warranty. Agree with everything said re design fault etc. As I say, I didn't have to pay repair cost but was told by service manager it was a £600 job and noticed when I collected car that invoice, made out for warranty company, was £485+vat. So estimates of cost of repair you are getting seem expensive compared to my experience.

Hello again. Does anyone know if problem is solved on replacement parts i.e. are they rustproof or are my replaced pipes likely to rust through again in 3 or 4 years? !!!

What model Pathfinders are experiencing this problem?

Mine is a basic 5 seater Trek and I can't imagine pipes running to the the rear wheel arches as there are no vents that I am aware of in the load space.

Just had this fixed on my '57 Pathfinder(4 months out of warranty) with 31k on the clock). Fortunately my dealer is a good advocate with Nissan GB and also put something towards the cost - I paid £255 and was advised the total cost was around £1k - took them a full day to do the job. I also asked 'will this happen again in 3 years time?' and they said it is a different part number for the pipes so they think there must have been an upgrade...
At least it was all done without any hassle to me and I give full marks to Hammonds in Suffolk. I agree with earlier comments that this just shouldn't happen and Nissan need to give owners support with this well beyond normal 3 year warranty.

Out of interest what models are experiencing this problem. I have a Trek and don't know whether it has a rear heater since it was built as a 5 seater.

hi guys,i think someone here can answer my question. I seem to have a problem with the Air Con insofar as when I press in the dashboard switch, the engine tick over increases, but the switch light doesn't come on. I can't get to the lamp to check it, is there any way to remove it ?Because of the outside temperatures, I can't check if it is in fact cooling the air.Are there any tests I can carry out to check the operation ?
