This is our second Nissan Note we've had, first vehicle I
had when just passed test was Nissan Note 1.6 Auto (57 plate), so happy with it that when the lease on it expired last year we couldn't find any other car to change to (except Qashqai but wait time on that vehicle was way too long) Anyway the old Nissan Note had a service period of 12,500 miles, but this new one we've been told it's only 12,500 for Notes with the smaller engines in them, the 1.6 engine is 18,000 miles now. We've got the automatic 1.6, does seem quite a long time to wait for servicing, we've just got up to 17,000 now. Car appears fine from outside and amazingly still on it's first set of tyres (last Note we had was going through tyres like it was going out of fashion, actually friends were quite alarmed as to how quickly we were eating through tyres in the old one - about every 6,000 miles a new set of tyres!). I had my dad help me check the tyres, oil, water, brakes, and everything from outside and all seem fine. Is 18,000 miles quite a long time for a vehicles first service, or have they made improvements recently to the Note 1.6 to allow it such a long service period? Also one other thing is at the moment we have a holiday planned and therefore the car might run over the 18,000 miles a bit during the holiday, is it dangerous to let it run over it's service period a bit or will it be fine? |

Earlier is always better, I do mine twice a year for oil and once for the filter, all the rest is done on time basis as I am low mileage user. The 18k miles is right but also it is 24 months if you don't do 18k in that time, for low mileage people it's 9k or 12 months for the oil and filter, spark plugs at 54k or 72 months, brake fluid at 24 months but I've yet to find a garage that does and I know quite a few personally, I didn't change the brake fluid in my last car for 13 yrs as I tested it and found it within spec. All the other stuff on the car is check and only replace if needed. Fresh clean oil is the life blood of any engine so never skimp on it, give it the best you can.

service it 1-2 times a year if it needs it or not, If your doing 25k+ miles a year deffo twice a year saying that i would do a first service at around 1 year, 8-10k miles as you basicly running the engine in and all the parts are bedding in plugs dont need doing till 60k miles its a pig of a job as you have to take the inlet mainfold off if its on a lease it should all be covered anyway inc a service once a year if the oil looks clean and the rest is up to scratch i cant see a problem with leaving it till after your trip, just do the usual checks before doing a long journey Edited by flash22 |
