Hi Tank started to leak so changed it this week. Last week when I last drove my 3.0DI Patrol it struggled to get over 3000 revs but seemed to clear itself later and run ok. Then after tank was fitted it became sluggish again then started to smoke if revved up. Smoke stinks of diesel as well, is not white or black to be honest. No water in tank or fuel. Fault code for light on dash os 77 or 707 Fuel Injection, could it be the high pressure pump and would that cause it to smoke? MAF has been replaced uneccessarily in the past, so tried the old one as well, not that. Can anyone help me please, any ideas? Ron |

Hi Im not an expert but as for the sluggish performance, have you changed the fuel filter? As for the smoking, it is usualy overfueling or turbo problems. make sure you haven't got any turbo pipes snagged and your turbo is turning freely. John F. |

Cheers John, had some replies on another forum and someone has suggested the EGR Valve, mjust admit someone at work had said the same, so will look into it.
For now I have shelved the problem and bought a Dodge Nitro 2.8 CRD to pull the caravan on a 57 plate. Initially impressed with power as a lot more than the patrol. You can never believe all that you read in the reviews as they generally don't like too many 4x4's do they.
Thanks again, will let you know when I find the cause

Just to let you know should anyone have the same thing?
I spoke to a specialist this morning about the problem as car has just sat there for the last 5 months as couldn't be bothered with it and he said the opposite of what we thought. I explained the problem and he straight away said under fuelling and to check the supply to the injection pump etc. I took the fuel filter off and it was dirty bigtime. Put a new filter on and started it up, same problem but just kept revving until it obviously cleared the crap and now running lovely. MOT tomorrow and then it will be back on the road. |
