Terrano 11 gearbox

   We had a problem yesterday the gear lever locked so we 

could not engage any gear, the unit was in two wheel drive. 

If I turned the engine off I could engage all gears and 

drive but not change gear again.  Up to then driving was no 

problem

RAC attended and had the same issue but I moved car to 

allow a tow but before this the gears all worked OK, Been 

into a garage and they find no driving faults.  No leaks no 

loss of clutch pedal pressure at any time

Any ideas what happened and do I need to get work done.

	Also i think there is a spring at the bottom of the gear lever.You would have to remove the center console to get to it though.
