Our 1.4 petrol engined nearly one year old note  developed an intermittant high pitched noise. It can occur with the car stationary but is more usual at slow speed. It does not occur at higher speeds. It is not loud but is really intrusive and makes driving in a traffic queue unpleasant.

We had a crankshaft seal replaced for an oil leak and asked for the noise to be investigated at the same time. The dealer said this noise was 'normal' and occurred in most Notes. The said it was from the steering servo. They had lubricated the steering.

The noise has become more regular and persistant and we have just asked for it to be looked at again during the cars first service.

Do any of you have such a noise on your Notes. If you did what was the action taken by the dealer. I find it hard to believe that Nissan would allow such a design flaw, if such it be, to go uncorected.

Frankly I am dubious of the garages claim and believe that the car is faulty.

The electric servo, from the steering wheel usually doesn't

brake down on Notes..

This was an K12 early problems, which got improved also later on..

Where exactly do you here these sounds?

The noise is heard inside the car. It's about 1000Hz so it's quite annoying. It seems to come from forward of the drivers position and as I said the car does not have to be moving for it to happen. The frequency is also independant of the cars speed.

Im curious to know if anyone else has it as the garage claimed it was both common and normal.

-No, it's not normal..

If it's coming from above your knees, check the steering motor.

When you re turning left-right-left, with the car not moving, the sound changes?

Do still have guarantee?

Thanks for replies. Sorry I,m late responding had to go to hospital. garage did replace and lubricate a bush in the steering column. They also said the column would have to be replace if the noise persists. The noise has so I'll be holding them to that statement. Oddly they asked if the instrument binnacle had been replaced, it hadn't. It's still under gaurantee. I'll report any progress.

Notefever if your comment means the servomotor is above the drivers knees that would be about right for the source of the noise.

has anyone else had this problem though, I'd be interested to know if it is in any way common. The car is only one year old.

Thanks and regards to all.
