I have just noticed a oily substance leaking from behind the rear wheel, it has a green tinge to it, any ideas what this could be?

hi its probably the pipes that go to your rear airconditioning unit

parts cost £437.35+vat and about a days labour not a good or cheap job unfortunately

Thanks, thats what we thought, Nissan have quoted £1,200 + vat, as they say the chasis will have to be removed, have you done this job before on a Pathfinder and if so did the Chasis need removing?

We have now got this problem sorted but I thought it might be worth putting a post on, as I am sure some other Pathfinder owners will come accross this problem at some point.

It turned out to be the heater matrix pipes leading to the rear matrix.  At Manufacturer Nissan place small pieces of rubber hosing around the two pipes to stop them banging together, but over time these rubber pipes collect dirt and water and corrode the pipes beneath, which then causes antifreeze to leak from the pipes.  it is a fiddly job to do as the pipes pass over the axle but it is possible, we used copper pipes to replace the pipes that had corroded (you can't use rubber hosing as they pass directly by the exhaust)then use small pieces of rubber hosing and jubilee clips to connect the old pipes to the new copper pipes.  I hope this helps anyone having the same problem!

Hello suzannestaite. I have the same problem with my Pathfinder i.e. I noticed a patch of bright green liquid on drive behind drivers side rear wheel. On looking underneath, a pipe or pipes located between exhaust and chassis seems to be leaking. My car is under dealer warranty so will book it in. Best to have as much info as poss I find before tackling service departments so could you clear something up for me please? Was liquid leaking from yours engine coolant or air con gas?
Regards

Hello again. Have been to dealer now and had the problem looked at by service manager. He confirmed problem is corroded pipes to rear heater/air con unit. However, he says they have checked with warranty company and air con is covered but not pipes! I am going to contest this as my warrnaty booklet says air con is covered and dosen't break it down to components. I'm sure I have read somewhere else about this problem with Pathfinders so I would like to find out extent of problem. Has anybody had same problem or knows where I can get more information on it?
