Hi, I have an 03 plate Micra K12 with a boot/tailgate problem.

Tailgate will not open from outside when you press the microswitch.

I have tried disconnecting and shorting the connector wire between the switch an the lock mechanism but nothing happens.

If I flick the lever on the catch from the inside it opens.

When the tailgate is open the microswitch operates the locking mechanism correctly, I can use a screwdriver to simulate the closed clasp, and it all seems to work, the microswitch closes and opens the lock mechanism, but when I close the tailgate again, the microswitch stops working. (almost as if the central locking is not releasing it)

I need to know if there is anything else I can try or whether I need to replace the door switch or the inner mechanism...

duff solenoid maybe, does it click when opening/locking the car ?

have you disconected the battery for 10-15 mins to see if the bmc/cl resets ? make sure you have the code for the radio first tho

Nissan will want to charge you for a complete handle inc switch whats nearly �100 but you can get a switch off ebay or a breakers

the boot switch is a common fault esp on the micra and note

With the tailgate wide open pressing the microswitch would trigger the solenoid and unlock the mechanism. with the door closed nothing worked. I could move the tailgate down sofar and the lock would work, but after about 1/3 it stopped working.

After a day of investigating, I think it is more likely to be a broken wire in the tailgate ( in the rubber gaiter between the tailgate and the main body) as with the door open stretching or compressing the wiring loom in that area I can make the switch work.

I think it is probably the yellow switch wire or one of the orange ones from the solenoid.

We have had to repair the high level brake light wire in that area 3 times already.

yes that sounds like a wiring fault, your need to disconnect everything in the boot lid and pull the loom back, it maybe an idea to pull the boot trim out to do the job to make life easy

poor grounding can be an issue too
