Hi all,
I run a 2003 micra which has been a good runner and apart from a lambda sensor change a couple of years ago, no problems. Last week though it started to cut out when coming to a halt. Upon advice I was told to spray some carb cleaner onto the throttle plates and give them a good clean. Which I did. I was also told to clean up the idle/air flow control valve. Well, on the “how to...” vids it always shows the idle valve as a separate unit, but I can’t see it. 
Is it built in to the main throttle unit in the top box. I notice this unit is riveted together, if so any tips on how to repair it or get in there and de-gunk it? I’m not to bad on the older engines but the new ones with ECM’s and....wow!

any lights flashing on the dash ?? have you had any error codes read ? it could be a number of things tbh |

Thanks for the come back flash22 Yes, I had the orange Malfunction "engine" symbol flash up. After cleaning out the throttle plates it has now stays on permanantly. When starting from cold and the revs are high all seems to be well but as soon as the choke goes off - it struggles for a few seconds then shuts down.

...further to my last, a mate of mine plugged his fault reader into the vehicle and did a quick check for me. He came up with 3 codes.
A) P0444 Evaporation Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open.
probable cause; Wiring open circuit, Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve, ECM
B) P1171 Not Known.
C) P0011 A Camshaft Position – Timing Over- Advanced or System Performance Bank 1
probable cause; Valve timing, Engine fault, Camshaft position(CMP) actuator.
He then lent me the reader to play with. Never used one before. Anyway an hour ago I followed the instructions and could only come up with the last one P0011. He mentioned something about cancelling some codes so maybe that’s it. I got the info from the Gendan website and typed it up as you see it.
What do you thinks folks. Am I in trouble here?

P1171 is todo with the air intake system on the micra
camshaft sensor will cause intermitant running or non starting and is a common fault on the micra either get a ntk sensor or one from nissan,cheap sensors can and do cause problems, evap and the air intake problem may be caused by the cam sensor fault (over/under fueling) fit a new sensor and clear the faults |

UPDATE:
With replacement cam shaft sensor fitted - all seems to be back to normal.
